Chairman of the Board of the Philip K.H. Wong Foundation
The Philip K.H. Wong Foundation Endowed Professorship in Chinese Medicine – Geriatric Medicine was established in 2024 thanks to the generous donation of the Philip K.H. Wong Foundation (the Foundation). The Endowed Professorship is committed to perpetuating the enduring legacy of the late Dr. Philip Wong Kin Hang, GBS, JP, Founder of the Foundation, who dedicated his life to serving society, advancing education and championing philanthropy for the betterment of Hong Kong and the Nation as a whole. As Hong Kong faces the challenges posed by an ageing population and the growing demand for medical and long-term care services, the Foundation aspires for this Endowed Professorship to advance pioneering research in geriatric medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and to enhance the role of Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases.
A pre-eminent figure in Hong Kong’s legal sector, Dr. Wong served the profession for over six decades. In 1990, he founded the Foundation dedicated to promoting charitable initiatives across Hong Kong, China and the Chinese Mainland, with a particular emphasis on education. To date, the Foundation has awarded scholarships, bursaries and research funding to six universities in Hong Kong and 13 tertiary institutions on the Chinese Mainland, empowering generations of students to realise their dreams for academic advancement. Dr. Wong was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1973 and awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in 2001 in honour of his distinguished contributions.
Upholding Dr. Wong’s philosophy, the Foundation has staunchly supported HKBU. In addition to endowing this professorship, it has funded various research projects at the School of Chinese Medicine, supported the School’s distribution of free Chinese medicine remedies for influenza to frontline healthcare workers and people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, and backed the HKBU Wang Fuk Chinese Medicine Free Consultation Scheme.
The Wong family members share a profound bond with HKBU. Dr. Wong’s eldest son, Dr. Kennedy Wong Ying Ho, BBS, JP, has provided longstanding service to the University through a number of pivotal roles spanning over two decades. His involvement includes serving on the HKBU Council and Court, as Chairman of the HKBU Foundation’s Board of Governors. In 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the HKBU Council and Court to steer the University on its path of unbroken progress. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by the University in 2013.
In 2017, Dr. Wong’s eldest daughter, Ms. Ada Wong Ying Kay, JP, was awarded an Honorary University Fellowship by the University for her remarkable contributions to cultural development, creative education, and social innovation.
